For too many people the winter brings with it added stress and worry. Those who are living on or near the poverty line find that the cold months are the months that tip them further into the poverty trap. Utility bills increase in the winter as we battle to keep our homes warm. Therefore we need clever tips to save money for those expensive winter utility bills.
There are ways to cut cost through the year that will help offset the cost of winter.
- Meal plan and buy reduced food. I am a fan of the odd yellow sticker. However I love how Kelly from Reduced Grub makes posh meals from reduced food. Her meal ideas allow you to eat like royalty for a fraction of the price.
- Add layers of clothes. Rather than wearing one huge jumper it is warmer to wear thin layers. Our youngest has asthma and we can’t have the house too warm as it makes her cough so the rest of us layer up. We also sit with blankets in the evening.
- Put money away in the summer months when you don’t need to spend as much on utilities. A prepaid card from icount can help with budgeting.
