I don’t meal plan which I know many money savers advocate. Writing it all down, checking the cupboards and making lists before going to the supermarket is not something we do and their is a very good reason why. Instead I go shopping at very specific times at our local ‘big’Tesco and instead buy the reduced food.
My husband has always done our shopping, choosing to go on a Sunday morning – however the past few months (if we are about) I go to Tesco for 3pm. 3pm is the time that my store brings out the reduced food that needs to be sold that day and the food is reduced to 10% or less of the shelf price. There are number of regulars and you will spot them as they stand about waiting. In my store there are three areas the food is bought to. There is a place in the fruit and veg for all the fresh produce, this normally comes out first. Then I head to the aisle with the meat and the ready meals and meat comes out. Finally there is a bakery section.
The meat section is where you can really make your savings and much of this can be reduced. The fruit is ideal for whipping up into smoothies and the children prefer the bakery items!
Just yesterday I managed to get over £110 worth of food for under £8.50 . Do watch the video below which shows just what I got and the prices.
I would also like to draw your attention to an important part of the blogging year. It is the annual time to nominate your favourite blogs for the MAD Blog awards. Last year I was thrilled and honoured to make it to the finals in the Outstanding Contribution Category for my work on raising awareness of DDH over at Emma and 3 This year I would again love to get to the finals and the award cermony. Therefore I would appreciate a nomination for www.mumssavvysavings.com in the Thrifty Category and if you are so inclined www.emmaand3.com in schooldays. This would make me feel all fuzzy inside! You can nominate on this link.
