For many September is a month for new starts. I personally am undertaking a six-week challenge of eating well and undertaking much more exercise. I can’t wait for you to see my progress and how I am doing lots of this in an affordable way. Home detox offers several advantages such as a system cleanse, relief of bowel symptoms and may help even some skin disorders such as acne. The basic ingredients are lemons, maple syrup, sea salt, water, and a variety of detox vegetables.

Lemon Detox
For optimal results, purchase pure grade B or grade C maple syrup, often sold in organic grocery stores such as Trader Joes. Regular grocery stores tend to stock the more refined grade A variety. Keep in mind that the pure varieties cost more, approximately $7.99 for a large bottle. But if you have difficulty procuring it, do not let that deter you. Pure honey or even sugar can be used in place.
Cut a fresh lemon in half and empty the juice into a large glass. You can use a lemon squeezer instead of your hands. Add a cup of water, preferably lukewarm, and mix well. The mixture should be consumed on an empty stomach in the morning, but if really strapped for time, you can do it anytime during the day or at night.
The Sea Salt Purge
Many people consider this as one the most unpleasant aspects of the home detox. Mix a quart (four cups) of water with two teaspoons of sea salt and drink the mixture on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. Remember, sea salt also costs at least three times as much as ordinary salt. Sea salt contains minerals that prevent absorption unlike regular salt.
Vegetables for Detox
There is a long list of vegetables that are recommended, and three are considered very effective – asparagus, squash and sweet potatoes. These may be consumed raw, or steamed. Season with pure olive oil and sea salt and pepper as desired. The other important green is raw spinach. Keep in mind that cooked spinach is not recommended as oxalic acid crystallizes when cooked on heat.
After the sea salt purge, consume the lemon detox in the morning and throughout the day on an as needed basis. Many folks find the lemon mixture quite filling, but the above vegetables may be added to alleviate hunger.
How Long?
There is little consensus on how long the regimen should be followed. For the truly determined, 10 days is recommended. In practice, follow it as long as you can stand it! Several users report increased energy and very effective weight control as benefits.
