One of the ways I plan to reduce our spending is by meal planning. I am not very good at this we seem to always have random things in the fridge and cupboard. However this is set to change as I cook more and plan our weekly evening meals better. For me the issue is that we often eat at different times due to everyone’s after school activities and clubs. Lee is always late home and the children have usually eaten by then. I find that cooking this way is more expensive so my resolution is to have more things that everyone can have their portion of when they need it.
Yesterday we had a simple sausage and pasta bake. All thrown together with some garlic, tinned tomatoes and peppers. Everyone ate it which is a good start! I am also going to experiment more with my slow cooker and meat but just don’t call it a casserole as we don’t like those! I think that’s just a reminder that we are children of the late 70’s where mum seemed to have a thing for casseroles and dumplings!
In addition I shall be eating more quorn. We all like quorn and going meat free is almost certainly a cheaper meal alternative. This advert from Mo Farrah explains why Quorn is such a good alternative. Do watch the advert and check out the Quorn YouTube channel
