I have set myself a couple of goals recently and also changed my mindset regarding my own personal wealth. I can be guilty of rushing things and spending money that I don’t need to. However I have been reading The Secret which has made me more mindful about how I am approaching things in life generally. It is already working for me and improving my life and letting opportunities flow into my everyday. Since reading The Secret I have also read The Wealth Chef: Recipes to Make Your Money Work Hard, So You Don’t Have To which has made me look at my personal finances in a different way too. I really feel like I am on a bit of a journey at the moment.
I have always had a good relationship with my money, never getting myself into debt (bar the student loans) and always earning more than I spent. However one thing holding me back is that I have discovered my money wasn’t working FOR ME. I don’t have assets only liabilities and this is something that I am going to change. I am not expecting this to change my life immediately but I now have a long term goal to put assets into my draw. The book made so much sense to me and I now have a desire to be financially free by spending smarter. Leaving regular employment almost two years ago to work self employed has been amazing and I earn well, however I am now mindful that I am not paying into a pension so I need to make my money work for me to provide for me later in life. There are many ways to get your money working for you from having a second property to investing in stocks and shares, the key is to diversify but at the same time to keep your money growing. I have so far been lazy with my money and it makes me realise how little we are taught about managing our personal finance and how we leave it to chance and only start thinking about our futures too late.
This month I have kept a closer eye on my spending by budgeting better and also by using the Organised Mum Budget Book. which has enabled me to track my money better. I have also meal planned as I was aware that one of my failings was buying too much top up food mid week.
The ideas are simple and I just need to be more aware of my money. I plan to save more and then turn this into assets for my families future. It is not enough just to stay on an even keel I want to grow my money now. Keeping track of your money is so important and now I have the knowledge and the means to. each month I am going to write an income report on how my incomes and outcomes are changing.
Join the journey, read the books and make life better! Who is with me?
