Working freelance and being your own boss always sounds amazing. Whilst it is certainly true that being your own boss gives you the freedom and flexibility most of us dream of, you do need to be on top of your game. For future success it is vital that you know the Easy Tips on How to Upscale your Small Business.
Today I thought I’d share what I have learnt along the way that will save you time and money in the long run. As a small business you will benefit from the expertise of others around you. I have been blogging for 7 years now and for the past three years blogging has been my full time job, the way I make my money. Pretty much all of my income revolves around blogging but does now include editing for Tots100 and some blogger outreach.
Since the start of this academic year I have also invested in a VA (Virtual Assistant). I am at a tipping point in that doing my admin tasks like invoicing, social promotion and expenses took time away from writing. By outsourcing some of this, frees up time for me. Time I can use to make money.
Tips on How to Upscale your Small Business
- To move a small business up a level requires the self belief to invest in yourself. This past year I have come to this point and now have a very small team to support me. My VA, as mentioned, will do some of my admin. Using tools like Xero makes it easy to keep your accounts up to date. Xero automates everyday tasks, allowing you to work more quickly and easily. This allows small businesses to grow. As a small business I can only spend money on what is actually needed. Therefore a free 30 day trial allows me the time needed to see if the Xero software works for me. A free 30 day trial is available for all using this link. Try it and see just how much more efficient it makes you!
- Having an accountant to manage your books and do the tax return is advisable as they have a wealth of knowledge. My accountant is able to advise me on spends that are classed as expenses and any tax breaks, like married persons allowance, that I am entitled to.
- Promote yourself. Use social media to let potential clients know about your business. As a blogger it can be hard to promote yourself when you are busy writing. Yet as a freelancer you also need to be pitching for new work and being proactive about it. I have a page on my site who I have worked with to showcase my success.
- Blog. Small business really benefit from a blog as it adds that personal touch to your product. People want to know more and a blog is a great way for building trust and a relationship. You can get started easily with just a few clicks and I managed to set up my first blog without any technical knowledge. Just follow the instructions, get some 123-reg web hosting from only £2.49 a month. Buy now!
- Be professional and have business cards to give to those you talk too. As a small business the more you can talk to people about your business the better. You never know where that conversation will lead.
- Look for local networking events. I find events so inspiring. This year I have stepped out and joined more groups both in person and online in order to nurture new opportunities.
- Finally my book Blogging Your Way To Riches
will also enable anyone with an online business to learn the tips on how to upscale your small business. The advice on how to grow your social media presence can only enhance a business.
