Having a bottom drawer

October 2, 2014 by EmmaB 3 Comments

I love a good sale but they need to be organised, I am not one for jumble sales or searching through a shop that looks  like one. I like order to much.  However a good rummage can certainly find some great bargains and this is how I stock up my bottom drawer.

The children know that the bottom drawer in my room is out of bounds, they know it contains a mystery of presents for others.  If I see a bargain it is bought and tucked away.  This week I had a look in that drawer as I am startisng to plan for Christmas and it is amazing what has been smuggled in and what I can already cross off my shopping list.

There was a pair of Jack Will;s socks that were 70% off and ideal for a teen girl.  There are make up items, I also collect sample sizes off magazines or off counters when you can exchange an old mascara for a Clinque sample and so on.  These get popped into a little bag and dressed up with some ribbon and thats another little gift for someone.

Joules had a fantastic sale in feb time and I stocked up on welly socks and some baby items that they were practically giving away.  At the time I had three friends expecting and they all went on to have boys so I have the prettiest girls sleepsuit still snuggled away.  If my gorgeous friend Molly from Mothers Always Right has a girl that will be winging its way to her!

I also refound some pieces I picked up in a Disney Sale plus I bought some things back with me for Florida so that will be filling Erin’s stocking up nicely.

It is fab to see that by being frugal and thrifty throughout the year I am saving myself some money come the expensive time of the year.

Do you have a bottom drawer and what has been your best saving this year?

I have a bottom drawer, although it’s actually under our bed. It’s full of toys from the sales for birthday parties and a Disney infinity set we managed to get in Sainsbury’s half price ready for Roo’s brthday

A bottom drawer sounds a good idea to me – as I have been known to buy presents and put them away in a cupboard to Christmas – then forget they are there. Whoops!

Such a good idea! I did have a present drawer, but the kids rifled it once and I need to find a new hiding place. I’ve started trying to buy for parties in bulk when I see great stuff. It does help with organisation and time too doesn’t it!
