Imagine having the ability to make a difference in the economy. Or to buy goods and services across the globe without having to worry about exchange rates. Each purchase you make paves the road for a stronger, more well-functioning financial environment.
Cryptocurrency makes all of these exciting scenarios possible, plus so much more.
Keep reading to learn more about this $2 trillion industry and find out why it’s only going to play a more significant role in the crypto futures!
The Basics of Cryptocurrency
Cryptocurrency’s biggest selling point is its lack of centralization, making it a non-fiat currency, or money that gets its value from government oversight. Instead, the value of a cryptocurrency is decided by market demand alone.
This latter point is particularly important when discussing cryptos like Dogecoin, which has had its market value influenced directly by investors like Elon Musk.
What’s more, most cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin, are finite. Bitcoin’s creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, only allowed for a total of 21 million bitcoins to enter circulation.
Crypto can be acquired through either direct purchase or a process called mining.
Mining sees a computer, or ‘mining rig’, complete a series of complex mathematics-based puzzles. Once the test is complete, the rig retrieves the coin and stores it in the user’s wallet.
Understanding the Blockchain
Though crypto technology is technically decentralized, each form of currency does have a record-keeping process. Each transaction and mining endeavor is recorded in what’s known as the blockchain, which is a peer-to-peer network.
While it might sound complicated, it’s just a higher-tech version of what we’re used to.
Let’s say you’re planning to buy a gift card for a loved one. Normally, you’d receive a receipt to prove that you purchased the item.
A blockchain functions in a similar way, recording the details of the transaction and storing that information on the network to help future transactions complete faster or more easily.
Once a transaction is stored in the ledger, it’s there for good. The next transaction then builds upon the previous ‘block’, creating the chain and further fleshing out a crypto’s value.
So now when you go to that gift card kiosk, you’ll still get a receipt. But you’ll also have that information stored across a series of networks that actively helps the cryptocurrency future!
Crypto Futures Fuel Tomorrow’s Medical Research, Today
The blockchain and cryptocurrencies are having a tremendous impact on more than just the financial world, too. Since ledgers are immovable, healthcare workers are finding ways to work with patients to access their medical data to conduct research.
The idea is that you, as a patient, now have more power over your medical records. You could access them at any time and control which parties can retrieve the information.
Not only is this great from a consumer standpoint, but it means that researchers have a greater sample size to work with. Just think, your data could help cure cancer!
An Overview of Crypto Technology
As you can see, our crypto futures come with some exciting possibilities. Not only does cryptocurrency put more power in consumers’ hands, but it’s fueling the types of research that can change the world.
