How To Get Yourself Out Of Debt Without Going Bankrupt

February 23, 2023 by EmmaB Leave a Comment

No one wants to find themselves in a financially troublesome situation but alas, it happens. With that being said, if you find yourself in debt, then it’s important to know how to get yourself out of it quickly and efficiently.

Unfortunately, not everyone is given the life skills when it comes to finances and a lot of it is often self-taught. However, it’s something that can be useful to know and if you find yourself in a financially difficult situation, then here are some tips to get out of debt without having to go bankrupt.

Consolidate all of your debts

Before you go any further, be sure to consolidate any and all debts you have. This is the most important part because it helps bring all of your outstanding debts together. By having all your debts in one place, it ensures that nothing is going unaccounted for and that any outstanding debt isn’t accruing late fees because you’ve forgotten it exists.

If you’ve got quite a bit of debt built up in different places, then it’s definitely worth making sure you bring everything together in order to keep an eye on everything.

Cancel any credit cards and stop using buy-later schemes

There are those who can handle credit cards with ease and those who can benefit from buy-later schemes, making those paybacks in a timely manner.

However, not everyone is good with borrowing money and when it comes to credit cards or buy-later schemes, they can sometimes be dangerous. If you find yourself in debt, it’s a good idea to make sure you’ve cancelled any and all credit cards, as well as stopping any buy-later schemes and instead opting to pay there and then.

Make use of IVAs

IVAs are a useful option for those who need to do some debt management when it comes to their money. These voluntary payments are useful and an IVA is a preferred choice for many who are looking to work with debt collectors.

It’s another option to go down the route without having to declare bankruptcy and impact your borrowing power in the future.

Take a look at your monthly expenditures and make necessary cuts

What monthly expenditures are being made that you could look at cutting? Not everyone wants to cut their luxuries but when you’re facing a lot of debt, the last thing you want to be doing is accruing more of it.

With that being said, take a look at your finances and if there are savings that can be made, look at cutting these out for the time being. While you are reducing your debt, it’s important to limit spending.

Have someone control your finances if you’re struggling

If you’re seriously struggling to control your finances, then it’s definitely worth offloading them to someone you trust and has confidence in being helped financially. If you have a financially savvy family member, get them to help control your finances if you’re struggling.

Getting yourself out of debt is challenging but not impossible. Use these tips to help get you out of the debt you’re in this year.
