We seem to be starting each day with Erin telling me about her dreams. I thought this was because she spent so much time in bed sleeping that it showed she was often in that lovely place between being awake and being asleep. I love that place where you are three quarters asleep and everything is slow, calm and pretty. However last weeks dreams were not so relaxing! Pre GCSE results the teen and me were both dreaming about results. My dream was that the results sheet had accidentally been shredded and we had to put it back together like a jigsaw puzzle. We couldn’t get it all to fit and I couldn’t see what grades she got!! Talk about anxiety led dreams! Once I shared this dream with the teen she started having the same dream and even roped in her teachers to help with the puzzle and they were just laughing and saying they couldn’t work it out either! Neither of us felt especially relaxed after our nights sleep!
Thankfully results day was not like that and her paper was all in order! However I have always enjoyed thinking about the meaning behind dreams and remember dreams about teeth falling out frequently and I am sure I read that this is to do with upcoming change. Over the years I have had a number of recurring dreams. Erin is just at the age of retelling her dreams and they are now obviously more vivid.
This short video explains some of the common themes and dreams that children have and I found it really interesting as it is definitely along the lines of Erin’s dreams and she is a similar age to the girl in the video.
I also think dreams are influenced by your bedrooms and that is why I have always tried to make the children’s bedroom less cluttered and a peaceful place. During the summer holidays when we are all at home we use this time to have a really good sort out and as such all the children have cleared out their rooms this summer. Both Chloe and Dylan have had new beds as both wanted doubles. It has transformed their rooms as they are now much more age appropriate and will do them throughout the rest of their time living at home. I like adjustable beds and when I upgrade that will be my choice for our room. Erin’s room has had a good clear out too although I still struggle with storage for her and I haven’t quite nailed that yet. It is getting better but she still seems to have so much stuff everywhere despite having the second biggest room!
Dreams to me are important and I think it can show you want is important to you. It is the letting go and letting your head and heart think and play out different scenarios.

My son usually tends to try and influence his own dreams as he wants to dream about specific things lol
