There seems to be two camps during lockdown, those who are spending money to pass time or because they feel they need cheering up or those who are not spending. I imagine those in the first camp are emotional spenders, which I thought I was too quite a degree. However, in reality I am being more frugal and spending way less, with the exception of food. I want plenty of food and treats in the house as I feel that I need to be feeding my kids all the time. I have also been cooking more family based meals. Prior to lockdown we were lucky to eat together twice a week. Now we eat together every day and this is something that I hope we carry on with after lockdown. I know we won’t manage everyday beacuse of work and after school clubs, but I do want to eat together more than we previously were.
Five Fabulously Frugal Things
First off these Peanut Butter Cookies that I made using things that I had in my cupboards are delicious. They are super easy and quite a healthy snack.
With it being Easter weekend, we are used to egg hunts for children and lots of outdoor family fun and family walks. It is much harder this year however there are still things that you can do at home. I have a printable of clues that everyone can use to make their own Easter Egg hunts at home. My ten year old loves this and you can pop a little egg with each clue and place a larger egg at the end.
I have also been frugal through necessity this week. I was due a hair appointment just after lockdown which was obviously cancelled. Lilly our Cavachon was also in need of a groom. Therefore I have temporarily opened up Emma’s hair salon! Chloe also got involved and trimmed her sister’s long hair! Well needs must and all that! I expect many of us will be sporting home cuts and box dyes by the end of isolation!
Fourthly we have saved money by approaching Chloe’s landlord for a rent reduction for her university house. 7 of them live in a private rented house each paying around £100 each per week. Student lets make big money! Chloe’s rent includes all amenties, however none of them are living there nor expected to go back apart from to pick up the rest of her belongings. We have approached the landlord for a rent reduction but are still waiting on a response. I will update in due course, but I don’t think it is reasonable of them to be making profit for students at this time.
Finally not sure the kids will be happy about this one but we have spent way less than usual on Easter Eggs. Usually we buy for lots of family and friends, but as we are not seeing them we have not been able to do this. It also means that the children won’t be recieving many. However of course our health is more important right now.
