Well what can I say we are finally at the end of another national lockdown and we can hope that it is the last. One good thing to come out of lockdown is that I have definatley saved money on take away coffee and driving related costs. We have also just finished another financial year and its pretty interesting to see how and where the year was most affected due to covid. This week has been a low spend week generally, although I haven't had … [Read more...]

We have been writing this linky for a number of years now and it always amazes me how many ways we can save money or make money with just a little bit of effort. Last week I mentioned the Too Good To Go app and I had lots of messages asking about it. I enjoy the challenge of grabbing a magic bag it feels like I've won something when I nab one! 5 Things I've Done This Week First up as I said I managed to get a Too Good To Go bag from … [Read more...]

Well that is another half term done in lockdown which is rather heartbreaking isn't it! I hope that was the last one and our children can get back to school next month and we can start putting lockdowns behind us. I am not especially looking forward to next week as it will have no structure and not much to do so we will be trying to think of activities to keep the kids happy and occupied. We have some fun home learning kits to explore which … [Read more...]

This week I seem to have spent lots of money on food but not much else. Having the house full with schools closed and eldest not going back to university has definately increased our food bill. Plus the heating has been on constant with cries of I'm cold, put the heating on! Lockdown saves me money in many ways - no more coffees out and about but it can still be expensive. One thing I've seen this week are people desperately needing old … [Read more...]

Well this time last week I wasn't fully expecting to be in a second lockdown. It has been a tough week mentally and I didn't really know what to do with myself. I questioned going shopping to get organised or going out for a final meal but it seemed crazy to go out for the sake of it knowing that we were being told to stay in. This lockdown feels mentally a little harder, I think it is because the kids are going to school and so is my husband … [Read more...]

How is it Friday again? Come to think of it how is it October. This year has been challenging on every level as the whole world knows but it is still whizzing by. It definitely feels chilly this week and with that in mind, I have been thinking about ways to keep the house warm when working from home. I find I get headaches at this time of the year when I start putting the heating on - does anyone else get that? I guess it is dehydration and is … [Read more...]

Another Friday rolls around whilst we are still in lockdown. It is helping my finances no end although I am craving more places that I can go and actually spend some money. What I would give to meet friends for a coffee or to sit in the pub this evening, or even to buy ice creams for us all in the park. Life really is tough right now! However looking at the positives I will share where we have made savings this week. We have swapped … [Read more...]

Lockdown week 7 (I think), it seems to be going on forever but it has definitely stopped my everyday spending which is good. As a self employed person it has been challenging to secure work and I have seen a downturn in work. Thankfully the self-employed scheme is in place and is going to provide a buffer now that we can claim. Here are my Five Frugal Things. Firstly applying for the self employment grant was super easy and quick and … [Read more...]

Hello money saving peeps! I think most of us are spending less as lockdown goes on. There is definately less too spend money on accidently. That coffee you grabbed on your way to work / home from the gym/ after filling car up etc feels like a distant memory at the moment. The new lipstick that fell into your bag as you picked something else in the high street feels like a life time ago. I wonder if and when we will ever get back to that kind of … [Read more...]

There seems to be two camps during lockdown, those who are spending money to pass time or because they feel they need cheering up or those who are not spending. I imagine those in the first camp are emotional spenders, which I thought I was too quite a degree. However, in reality I am being more frugal and spending way less, with the exception of food. I want plenty of food and treats in the house as I feel that I need to be feeding my kids all … [Read more...]
