Regular readers will know that we have made a family commitment to be more environmentally aware. This year we have been working with SaveMoneyCutCarbon to make sustainable eco swaps, we have previously changed our laundry habits and we have cut out the clingfilm and switched to stasher bags.
On a wider note, we are eating meat-free two days a week and I’m trying to buy fewer clothes. I was really impressed this month as I was able to pick up two pairs of trainers at our local charity shop for Erin. She needed some trainers for water activities on a recent school residential and I was able to find some Nike trainers that were ideal. I also found a pair of white Nike Airs which were on her birthday list, they were in immaculate condition and she is thrilled. These cost just £3 compared with nearer £70 in the shops!
Becoming more environmentally aware is something that takes some effort and consideration but being prepared definitely helps. Thankfully SaveMoneyCutCarbon enables me to get organised and stay stocked up. The Home Club saves consumers money and time. It saves money as it is like buying directly from the manufacturer because living sustainability doesn’t have to cost you more. Another huge bonus of being a member of the home club is priority despatch on orders, club members go to the top of the pile!
What are Planet Points?
Planet Points are a loyalty and reward scheme for all customers. You collect points that can be used as payment towards products. You can treat yourself when you have enough points or collect them for bigger purchases.
As a member, you can also benefit from extra Planet Points. Planet Points are given to all customers but as of the 31st of August, Home Club Members get double. So that means with each purchase Non-Home Club members get 1 point for every £1 they spend, and Home Club members get 2 points for every £1 they spend.
Therefore it makes sense to become a home member and save money by collecting your Planet Points.
How I spent my Planet Points
I had £50 worth of Planet Points and they were super easy to use. I simply popped my chosen goodies into my basket and paid by redeeming the points. What’s more, when you spend over £40 it is free delivery so I didn’t even pay for postage.
I decided to order toilet paper from Uranus Wiper which is a UK-based company who have created an incredibly wonderful toilet paper. It is plastic free, hypoallergenic and bleach free. As the company is UK based it also does a bit to reduce my carbon footprint. On a practical level ordering toilet roll makes my life easier as when I do our weekly shop it always takes up so much in the trolley! As a family of five we are regularly buying loo roll, getting it delivered makes my life easier.
My second purchase was kitchen roll, again this saves me buying it at the supermarket and lugging it around. Instead I had it delivered home. I have tried to stop using kitchen roll but its one thing I still need to use in the kitchen. So I have made a switch to Cheeky Panda Bamboo Kitchen Roll. Bamboo grows 20-30 times faster than trees, produces 35% more oxygen and absorbs 35% more carbon dioxide, making it a much more sustainable and eco-friendly material. It is also naturally anti-bacterial and anti-fungal, odour resistant and hypo-allergenic so it is perfect for sensitive skin.
I also ordered a Non Plastic Beach Bamboo Safety Razor Kit this is a durable, sustainable razor with a bamboo and metal handle that is made to last for decades, which significantly decreases your spend on razors long term. The blades cost a fraction of those found on big branded multi-blade razors and are also plastic-free.
Using Planet Points is really easy and a great way to save both the environment and money. Join the home club today and start making these clever savings and switches.
