Top Tips For Maximising Waste Management

November 1, 2021 by EmmaB Leave a Comment

We generate approximately 37.2 million tonnes of commercial and industrial waste in England alone, and it’s estimated that UK businesses could save over £6.4bn per year by improving how we use resources in the workplace.

But when it comes to reusing and recycling resources effectively, maximising your waste management will transform how much rubbish you produce on average and keep down costs too. As awareness of environmental issues grows, it’s time to get ahead of the curve and do your part for the environment.

Not quite sure where to start? Here are some of our top tips for maximising waste management:

“Rethink” your rubbish

What is rubbish? Is it something that no longer serves a purpose? Has past its sell-by date? Or maybe it’s an item that takes up too much space on your desk.

Rubbish isn’t always a throwaway item. In most cases, everything from used paper to the chair you are sitting on can be repurposed or reused rather than landing on the landfill heap. “Rethinking” your rubbish will not only make sure that all those items that can be reused or recycled will be, but it will significantly cut down your impact on the environment and improve morale amongst your co-workers.

So next time you go to throw something away in the bin, ask yourself these three questions:

  1. Can this be reused?
  2. Can it be recycled?
  3. Can it be donated?

Focus on recycling

One of the biggest problems we face with managing waste is a lack of education and information surrounding recycling. Then there’s not knowing where or how to dispose of everything from your mobile phone to refilling ink cartridges. But all of these things can easily be addressed to maximise your waste management:

  • Make it clear what items can be recycled: glass, cardboard, paper etc
  • Source a reputable ink cartridge supplier who specialises in refills
  • Encourage everyone to use reusable cups to minimise waste
  • Donate old furniture to local charities
  • Reuse scrap paper for simple printouts that won’t be seen by clients or beyond the office or can be reused at home
  • Reuse incoming packaging, boxes and envelopes where possible
  • Place recycling bins next to printers and photocopiers as a friendly reminder
  • Launch a community garden and compost heap for all your tea bags, coffee grounds and food waste items such as fruit cores and peels

While working in an office environment comes with a whole heap of processes that take over daily life, adopting simple waste management do’s and don’ts will keep your rubbish from getting out of control.  You can help your workplaces by incorporating signs that help your staff understand what to recycle and where, click through to this site for more information.

Book a regular rubbish collection service

One of the easiest ways to kerb unnecessary waste buildup is to hire a company dealing with Junk removal Melbourne (or elsewhere more relevant) on a regular basis to take care of all your waste materials. Whether that’s a once a week slot or once a month collection, your local rubbish removals team will take away the stress and effort of disposing of waste yourself.

To make things as easy as possible, separate your recyclables, reusables and large, bulky items into bags, and leave any toxic waste to the side so that it can be disposed of safely. Then when it’s time to collect, your local company will load all of your unwanted goods onto their van and dispose of, recycle and donate all your items in the most environmentally friendly ways possible.

From Aberdeen to London rubbish removals and beyond, your reputable local team is only a phone call away.

Not just for the office

Managing your waste isn’t just part of your 9 to 5. While your job may take high priority in your day to day, staying on top of all your household rubbish is also imperative. From leaving out your general refuse, recycling and food waste for your local council to collect to taking care of the jobs you’ve been putting off for some time, there comes the point where sorting out your junk needs to take priority.

But multiple trips to the tip aren’t for the fainthearted. That’s where your local rubbish removals company comes to hand again. They can take away most, if not all of your waste in one go and dispose of each of your unwanted items in the most ethical and environmentally friendly ways possible.

What’s more, instead of getting your car seats covered in grime, dust and dirt, the professionals come prepared for the job, no matter how big or small. So rather than spending hours waiting in line at the tip and wasting your fuel, save yourself some money by getting the pros involved.

Typically, most reputable rubbish removals companies will take care of all kinds of waste, including:

  • Household waste
  • Furniture
  • Mattresses, wardrobes
  • Books, magazines, paperwork
  • Kitchen appliances and electricals
  • Cardboard
  • Toxic waste
  • Garden waste, decking, sheds, etc.
  • Construction/building site rubbish

Among the many perks to hiring a professional rubbish removals team, they also tend to have good relationships with the local waste plants, recycling centres, and charities. So you can rest assured that each of your unwanted items is disposed of correctly.

Simple, efficient waste management

No matter where you want to manage your waste – in the workplace or at home – setting up a simple, efficient waste management system is all you need to stay on top of all your rubbish. From having designated recycling areas to scheduling a regular rubbish removals service, getting rid of your waste doesn’t have to be complicated.

So start off small. Where you may have opted for chucking most things in the bin, stop and think before throwing out your cereal packet or the used up ink cartridge.

Even softer plastics from things like pastries and bread can now be recycled at many local supermarkets. So bag them all up in one place after use, and take them all away in one go to save you multiple trips. While you’re there, take all of your used-up batteries!

Getting the most out of your waste management starts with you, at home, before you even set foot in the office. From making small changes to your recycling habits to finding a new home for your unwanted goods, there is a lot you can do to leave a positive impact on the environment around you. What steps will you take first?
