A Teen Retreat

August 9, 2015 by EmmaB Leave a Comment

If you could have an extra room what would you use it for? I have been seeing more and more adventourous garden rooms or sheds. These have been named as man caves, or she sheds. This outside shed could just be what you need in your life. Therefore when I saw that the lovely Amanda from The Ana Mum Diary was hosting a competition to let your imagination go wild and create your own shed I knew exactly what or who mine would be for.

I would opt for something like this Tiger Elite model and I would get really creative with the space and how to design it.

Before I get on to showing how I would style the summer house I want to start by saying what I would use this space for. I would turn this into a positive and calm place for my teenager and her friends to be. I would have a little area where Chloe can study and work in peace from her little sister but I would also give Chloe the space to chill with her friends. It would contain somewhere for them to sit and laugh. Somewhere to escape to and listen to music. It would be full of positive messages like the cushion I received from a brilliant event last week that said ‘she believed she could so she did’.

Giving young people positive affirmations is really important to me and teaching teenagers that they are valued is something I am striving to do every day. I would give her this space to have some privacy and space where she and her friends can just be.  I would go for calming greys and yellow, bunting stretching across the room and being fresh and trendy for them.  This year is going to be hard work as they study for GCSE but maintain their hobbies and friendships.

The rug especially is one of my favourite pieces.  Although I would let Chloe and her friends take over this space in the evenings and weekends, I would be able to pop there during the day for a coffee break away from the laptop.
What do you think of my chill pad – I was trying to think of name to go with the current trends of man cave and she shed and came up with ‘teen retreat’.  A retreat is a place one goes for peace and that just about sums up what I would try to achieve with my shed space.
