I first discovered the joys of entering competitions (or comping) five years ago when I was off work on maternity leave. I was on bed rest and was fidling about on the laptop when I stumbled across websites dedicated to entering competitions. I started and soon discovered I was lucky. The prizes were dropping through the door at a good rate. Mostly small prizes but soon enough I was hooked on comping.
The past few years have seen me comping less because I was working three days a week and keeping the blog going. Now I have left teaching I planned to start comping again to hopefully win some extra treats. I have entered just a couple over the past few weeks and planned to really get going in September. However I have won my biggest prizes to date this week!
Just over two weeks ago I found out I had won a vitamix and we have been enjoying fruit smoothies every day since. Secondly I won a garden makeover for having a disaster of a garden! This is a very much wanted prize as we have been planning on getting the garden sorted. This comp was only open for a week and I was lucky to spot it. I imagine it had quite a low entry rate as you needed to have a garden story.
The competition was on the Swinton website and there is one more project left to run, so do check it out. I will be blogging the garden makeover so do come back to see what we are having done. It involves this circle!
But …. that wasn’t the end of my winning spree, as they say things come in threes, well late last night I was checking my emails and spotted one from Thursday that I hadn’t read. It only informed me that I have won a holiday for three nights to Portaventura which is just outside Barcelona. This competition was held at Britmums Live the blogging conference that is my yearly weekend away. I had dressed myself up silly and then had to get people to like my photo. I don’t know anymore details about the holiday yet except that it includes flights. Unfortunately it is for a family of four and we are a family of five so I have to choose which two of my kids I love the most and leave one at home!!! Seriously though I am hoping we can sort that!
It seems I am still lucky and and has given me a huge boost especially as they are all great prizes, my biggest to date. Winning a holiday has been one of my comping goals and now I have done it. I’d like a car and a spa break next – got to aim high!!!
If you plan to have a go at comping use sites like Prizefinder, Loquax or MSE as a great starting point but remember to enter low entry ones which are local or held during events as there will be less entrants and that means a higher chance of winning!

well done lovely!!

My programmer is trying to convince me to move to .net from PHP. I have always disliked the idea because of the expenses. But he’s tryiong none the less. I’ve been using Movable-type on a number of websites for about a year and am worried about switching to another platform. I have heard good things about blogengine.net. Is there a way I can import all my wordpress content into it? Any kind of help would be really appreciated!
My family always say that I am wasting my time here at net, except I know I am getting experience all the time by reading thes pleasant articles or reviews.
