Everyone loves Christmas and it seems like everyone expects to see Christmas trees in every house. Well, what happens when someone has allergies or you’re worried about your kids and pets or perhaps, your place is just too small for a traditional tree. It could also come down to the fact that you just don’t want to deal with the whole tree and ornament thing. Well, don’t you worry, I’ve got some DIY Christmas tree alternatives to inspire the holiday spirit in you! My homemade Christmas Wreath for under £5 is one of my most popular posts.
DIY Christmas Tree Alternatives
Felt Fir: This is a fun take on a Christmas tree and it hangs on the wall, so it doesn’t take up any space. All you need is green felt, some other felt scraps (try thrift stores!), a string, 2 wooden dowels and some hot glue. Cut a Christmas or Pine Tree shape out of the felt with a good pair of scissors. You should be able to find a template online. Attach the 2 dowels, one on each side, from the top of the tree with the hot glue. You can also add the string at this time by hot gluing one end to each dowel. Now, cut some cute ornament-type shapes out of your felt scraps and hot glue them to your felt tree! Don’t forget to make a topper!
Or you could cheat and buy one! Just like this one from Amazon which I also think is ideal for children’s bedrooms.
Tree of Lights: Everyone Ooohhhs and Aaahhhs over Christmas lights, so why not make a tree out of them? Like the felt tree, this one will hang on the wall, won’t take up space and barely requires ANY DIY! Take some small Command Hooks and attach them to your wall in that easily recognizable triangle shape, grab a few strings of Christmas lights and start hanging! You can do the outline of a tree or lace the lights back and for from the bottom to the top!
Box Tree: Another easy DIY Christmas tree alternative, and one any Minecraft fan will LOVE, is the Box Tree! You’ll need 3 boxes, one large, one medium, one small and some pretty green wrapping paper. Wrap the boxes just like presents and then, hot glue them, one on top of the other. Simple enough, right?! You can even decorate it by wrapping lights around it and putting a star on top!
See, you don’t need a gigantic pine in your house in order to have a Christmas tree and, if all else fails, tape some green construction paper to the wall and let your kids “decorate” it! Whichever DIY Christmas tree alternative you end up going with, I am sure it will make your holidays Merry and Bright!
