How to Get Your College Degree on a Budget

June 22, 2017 by EmmaB 1 Comment

Anybody who’s researched the costs of getting a college degree will know that it doesn’t come cheap. However, for many students, it is an investment that pays off if it allows them to pursue better careers in their chosen industry in the future. But, if you’re unable to foot the cost of going to college right now, then it’s difficult for you to make that investment in the first place. Luckily, there are several options available to you that could help you to cut the cost of getting a college education and make it more accessible to you, even if you’re getting by on a low income. We’ve listed some of the best ways to get a college degree on a budget.

Seven financial implications to consider when choosing secondary schools

#1. Study Online

In the last decade or so, online degree programs have drastically risen in popularity. For students who are on a low income or are unable to get financial support from their parents, the fact that many online programs are priced at around one-third less than traditional campus-based degree courses has made it much easier to achieve their educational goals. The reduced cost of studying for your project and program management degree online isn’t the only benefit, either. Since you will be studying from home, you can create your own, flexible study timetable that allows you to work more often, and therefore earn more money to support yourself through college.

#2. Study Abroad

If you’re considering going to college and want to save money, then you may not have considered the cost of studying abroad. Depending on where you study, there are many countries around the world which charge less in fees for international students than many U.S. colleges charge for home students. Germany, for example, is well-known for its low tuition fees, with some universities even offering free tuition for anybody, regardless of the country where you have come from. If you are looking to save money whilst you study and also want to learn new skills, this could be an ideal option for you.

#3. Explore Financial Aid and Scholarship Options

When it comes to paying for your college tuition, there are many options that you might be eligible for in terms of getting financial aid. For example, if your family is on a low income, you will likely be more eligible than most when it comes to getting financial aid. Similarly, if you are a mature student who is considering going back to school to improve your prospects, you may be able to get help with funding from the government or your school. Single or low-income parents may also be able to get financial aid. So, it’s important that you take the time to look into all your options, since there could be funding available for you that you’re unaware of and would miss out on. If you are considering applying for a program that would benefit your employer, such as an online MSMPP degree, they may be able to help with the cost.
