Being six is such a great age and I have really enjoyed watching Erin play with her dolls in recent months. By the end of the day my living room floor resembles a toy shop. The floor is scattered with parts of our wooden dolls house, Sylvanians and dolls. I listen to her as she chats away whilst playing with them. It is a lovely age and it is great for her vocabulary as she develops her language skills.
Erin also enjoys crafting and will spend hours colouring and making, much more than the older two ever did. I have to have lots of little projects for her to get on with. When not playing with toys Erin will be found on the ipad.
What we use technology and the ipad for with Erin.
- We use it in so many ways, she will watch her favourite programmes on the iPad rather than the TV, Topsy and Tim anyone?
- We have a number of apps which we regularly use including an app that does her spellings with her. Erin is competitive and always wants to practise her spellings on the ipad. We use SqueeblesSP which allows me to set the tests.
- We then also use interactive games which are often Educational. One of the ones we have been using recently is from Carol Vorderman, this is a dedicated Maths programme and is brilliant for Erin who excels in Maths and needs some extra stimulation.
- The Marvel Kids site also has interactive games and activities to do with children.
The site is aimed at girls and boys aged four and above. It includes games like spiderman word scramble. These sheets can be printed off and will be great for doing at home or even taking out with you when you need something to keep the child busy.
Mine have always like doing these types of activities and now that most of us have printers at home we are able to use these at our convenience.
There are some great and interactive ways to use technology with younger children and they don’t just need to be passive consumers it is just a case of spending a few minutes to find the right sites for them and Disney Is a great place to start!

I find it such a hard thing to monitor. We’ve actually for the last month, just put the iPad away with Miss A, and said lets have a break from it. So addictive!

Technology can really help children just make sure the apps your children are using are educational or apps that suits their age. And setup a schedule for it.
