From having an overbearing boss, a long commute and endless responsibilities, it is safe to say that some degree of work stress is unavoidable. That being said, if you want to take steps to become a happier and healthier you, then here are some red flags you need to look out for.
You are Always Working overtime
It’s very hard to find a job that gives you the chance to leave on time. Many people will find that they end up having to work late or that they have to get in to work early just so they can get their jobs done. If you feel as though you are always having to work beyond your contracted hours or if you feel as though you are just not able to cope with the responsibilities you have then this is a clear indicator that something has to change. Studies have shown that if you always work overtime then your productivity can decrease and that you end up being at higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease.
You Don’t Get up from your Desk
Being sedentary all the time isn’t good for you. Sometimes, depending on the job you have, it can be unavoidable. Prolonged sitting is linked to obesity, depression and even diabetes. If you want to do something about this then you should look into a standing desk. If you can’t do this then try and sit with your knees bent below the hip, so you can shift your pelvis forward. The main reason why you need to do this is because it encourages your spine to extend, and this can help to reduce fatigue, neck strain and even shoulder tension. Check to see if your company can provide you with a desk assessment so you can analyze the risks of your current working environment, and then go from there,
You Never Sit Down
On the other side of the spectrum, you may find that you never sit down. If you want to do something about this then you need to take regular breaks from your job and you also need to make sure that you talk with your boss about the impact that this is having on your health. If you suspect that your health is being put at risk then it is so important that you take out health insurance. It has never been easier for you to take out a policy that benefits you and you never know, it could save you from costly expenses in the future.
You Stay Awake at Night
Another major sign that your job could be harming your health is if you find that you are kept up at night because of stress. You may find that you are not able to sleep and that you simply can’t stop thinking about the day ahead. This is understandable, but if you do not take steps to combat this now, you may find that you experience even more health issues at a later date and this is the last thing you want.
