When booking a holiday there are a number of ways that you can save money on the incidental costs of travelling. In this post, I am going to share some of my tried and tested ways to save a little bit of money when travelling with the family. These money saving tips came in handy when we recently travelled to Perdepera Beach Resort.

For us, saving starts with booking! I always book online as there are always savings to be had that way. Whether that is from using TopCashBack or discount codes you can usually save yourself £50 or so. It is a no brainer to spend a few minutes looking for discount codes because the savings can be big. The second way to save on travelling is when packing. We are a family of five but we don’t need that many suitcases so I save money by only taking 3 or 4 cases. It also helps when it comes to playing car jenga and loading up the boot! I have taught my teenagers well as on Chloe’s recent week trip to Bulgaria she travelled with just hand luggage in order to keep her costs down. Many travel companies now charge per bag so this is an easy way to save.
This summer we invested in a roof box – and we totally smashed that because we found the bars advertised on Facebook marketplace for just £30 and the separately found the roofbox in another sale. This has made travelling easier for us as we have more space in the car.
I also pack food for the journey rather than paying more for convenience at the airport. This is especially useful when you have children because they get through plenty of snacks! Although you can not take drinks through the airport you can take food. Then once the other side of passport control we buy a drink each ready for having on the flight.
A further consideration is parking at the airport. It is cheaper the further away you park and there are both advantages and disadvantages to official parking or off site parking. ParkHero Airport Parking offers all options, if you are looking for a cheaper parking option then you can prebook off-site. This service will help you save money that can be better spent on holiday treats! The off-site parking is a Park & Ride service where your car is securely stored whilst you are away. You park up, register your car and leave the key with the staff. Then you jump into a luxurious minibus that will get you to the airport in less than 5 minutes. This service is ideal if you have time on your side and are happy to be ferried to the terminal with others. It can also add to the sense of adventure if you have little ones.
However, if you have a little more to spend then Meet and Greet Manchester Airport can get your holiday off to a smooth start. With Meet and Greet you simply arrive at the designated meeting place, usually in the terminal and hand your car over to a member of staff. You then head straight into the airport terminal and start your holiday. Your car is then driven off and kept in a secure space for the duration of your holiday. Meet and Greet offers the most convenient option but of course, you pay a little more for this!
If you are travelling abroad then you need to get travel insurance, but again there are ways to save money. Firstly use a comparison site to get a number of quotes. If you are a frequent flyer then an annual policy will probably work out much cheaper than a single trip policy.
These money saving tips will help you save money in the run up to your holiday and all you need to do then is decide what cocktail to treat yourself too with the saved pounds!
