Savvy Ways To Feed The Family For Less

June 29, 2019 by EmmaB Leave a Comment

Food, it’s highly likely that you spend a good deal of money on this, no matter what the size of your family. Have you ever asked yourself whether you are spending too much, though? Sadly it’s entirely possible that you are, and, of course, this leaves less money in the budget for other things. Happily, there are some smart ways you can reduce the cost of your food bill. A topic you can read more about below.

Minimise waste

It is very easy to end up throwing away a lot of food at the end of the week. You know the carrots that have gone a bit bendy, and the bananas that are blackened and bruised. Sadly, this food that you are chucking in the bin is stuff that you have paid out your hard earned money to buy, meaning you are wasting money.

Happily, there is a solution to this and its to blend any fruits or veggies down and then freeze them. In fact, you can mix different fruit with other fruits, and the same with vegetables or just keep them separate. Then you will have a freezer full the bases for yummy soups, sauces, desserts, and cakes which you can easily use next time you are cooking. All without having to buy fresh and spend money unnecessarily.

Batch freezer meals

Batch freezer meals are the solutions that all parents are looking for when it comes to saving money. They also make your life so much easier as well because all you have to do is take the meal bag from the freezer and let it defrost, then you cook it up at dinner time and boom, healthy food for the whole family on a budget!

Of course, it will take a little time to prep up, but if you do it as soon as you’ve been shopping, it means that you don’t need to worry about cooking for the entire week. The best thing about freezer batch cooking is that you will know precisely what you will need to buy in terms of ingredients. Something that can really help to keep your grocery bill as low as possible.

Shop with the offers

If you want to save money on the way you feed your family, one strategy that you can’t afford to ignore is shopping with the offers in the supermarkets.

In fact, by using things like these Lidl special offers, as well as BOGOFS, and 243s you can really get the overall cost of your weekly shop down. Something that can really add up over a year, and even month by month!

Grow your own

Do you know what costs hardly anything? Fruit and vegetable seeds, that what! This means is that you can grow your own healthy food for a fraction of what it would cost to buy it!

That’s not the only advantage you will get from setting up your own vegetable garden though because by doing this you can teach your little ones all about how to grow, tend and prepare healthy food as well. Something that means this strategy will not only save you money now but will give the little ones a priceless life experience as well.
