It has been a long summer this one. The eldest had GCSE’s and as such finished term way back in June and now it is September. I have loved having the children home and we have added to our memories plus thrown in a few holidays. I live in a boom and bust household in that I work from home and enjoy the peace. I spend six weeks or so in term time doing things my way and then during the school holidays not only do I have the children to entertain but my husband is home too. During term time I work in my comfy clothes, watch the news and spend my days making a living online. It suits me. Many ask if I get bored or how I motivate myself and I reply ‘easily’. I love it – I love working at my pace and pottering about the house inbetween paid work. It is quite a short day really as I start at about 9am after the school run and at 2.30 I am watching the clock ready to go and collect Erin.
Although I love having the children home – like all parents I sometimes crave the peace and quiet term time brings. Just enough to do my work, drink coffee in peace and not hear my name being called every single five minutes. This week school starts at a staggered pace with the children all starting on different days of the week – but I know that by Thursday once more the school hours will be mine. I have a list that has grown over the summer and I am looking forward to cracking on with it.
Since becoming self employed by wardrobe has totally changed – I rarely wear any formal suits anymore but do like to have variety in my outfits. Whilst some days are made for slumming it out in what is today regarded as lounge wear other days see me making more of an effort and wearing dresses. I really like shirt dresses as I find them very flattering as I am a proper pear shape with hips. Pink Clove invited me to choose three items to try and I thought these joggers were fab. They have already proved themselves to be my pull on trousers when I am dropping Chloe to work for a 9am start at the weekends. They are also ideal for the running around when I am dropping them at training for their sports clubs. I also like the irony that a mum is actually never Off Duty is she?
The second item was a pair of trusty wide leg, belted black trousers , perfect for autumn again and very much school mum style!
Finally I selected was one of those trusty shirt dresses I mentioned. I picked a plain black one as it can be dressed up and down. They are great for travelling and ideal when I am popping to London for blog meetings and events such as Sho Mo’s conference where I am speaking on a panel on how to work with brands and how to make successful collaborations. The one I opted for has a tie waist dress which is great as my waist is an area that is smaller and it gives me a good shape when I tie the belt snugly. The dress looks great in the autumn with boots which is pretty much my school mum look!
The clothes from Pink Clove are very reasonably priced which makes them accessible for all just a shame they don’t do full on gowns and evening dresses as I also need one of those for the upcoming MAD blog awards where I am a finalist in the thrifty category.
