The holiday season is coming and many of us enjoy spending this time with our family and friends. Therefore now is a good time to start getting the house ready for visitors and guests who plan on dropping by for short stays or fun nights at home.
Many of us now prefer a cozy night in with friends as opposed to big nights out. Plus there are many advantages to staying in, including that they are cheaper than heading out. Staying in can afford you the luxury of entertaining friends on a budget. Transport is sorted without the need for expensive taxi’s and drinking at home is certainly cheaper than a night in a bar. Plus a night in with friends and family means that you can actually talk to each other without shouting over the noise in a bar or spending time queuing for drinks.
- In a recent survey conducted by Julian Charles 85% of respondents agreed that cleaning and tidying would be at the top of their list before guests arrived. This may feel overwhelming if you are a busy parent but my solution is to take your time and focus on one room at a time. Start downstairs with the rooms that guests will see and if there is too much stuff in the room consider splitting it into piles including things to sell, things for a charity shop and things to find a new home for.
- Look at adding some seasonal touches, for many the dining room was the most likely room to be decorated for Christmas. If there is space consider adding a second tree to this room. There are now lots of trees available for small spaces. Decorating the dining room doesn’t need to be expensive. Look at adding a centerpiece to the dining table some seasonal flowers that you cut from the garden, a candle or get creative with a bowl of baubles. None of these are expensive, and many can be made at home.
- Almost 65% questioned want their family and friends over during holidays, and it is your company they really want. Another fun way to share an evening is where everyone brings a course to the meal. Therefore this cuts the cost of entertaining but you still can enjoy a three or four course meal. This often takes the pressure of the hosts too.
- A themed night can be lots of fun, maybe you like board games and can plan a game’s night. In the past, we have enjoyed murder mystery evenings which you can buy from places like Amazon. Other options including making cocktails and serving them up tp your guests.
These four tips can take the stress and cost out of entertaining in your home.
