5 Tips for Saving Money On the Things You Do Every Day

January 27, 2019 by EmmaB Leave a Comment

In today’s world, it all seems to be about instant gratification, but saving money sometimes takes patience and diligence. This means that it’s critical to remain focused when you want to start saving every way possible. In order to assist you when it comes to monitoring the way you spend, and to cut your expenses, here are a few tips you can use every day.

Refrain From Speeding

There are actually a few drawbacks to speeding. First, it isn’t efficient when it comes to how your gas is being used. Second, if a cop sees you and pulls you over, you’ll not only have a ticket to pay but also, your car insurance could go up. You always want to try to save when it comes to auto insurance for families. For these reasons, it’s much more cost efficient to simply stay at the posted speed limit to both save your gas and to keep the fuzz off your tail.

Use a Programmable Thermostat

Installing one of these is just a no brainer when you want to cut down on the energy that’s used when you aren’t home, or even just to regulate the overall temperature inside your home. When you set it to cool or heat your home during certain times, you’ll be ensuring that your utilities aren’t just being wasted while you’re sleeping or at work. It allows you to keep your home warmer for less in the winter and cooler in the summer.

Have a Money Date Once a Week

Make a commitment to sit down with the money you have once each week for a ‘money date.’ At that time, you can update the budget, take a look at each of your accounts and track any progress you might be making toward your financial goals. It really helps if you and your partner can do this together.

Plan Your Meals

You can save quite a bit of money if you take about an hour each week to create a meal plan and go through the grocery ads and coupons. Remember that dining out can cost you much more than making and eating your food at home. By doing this, you’ll be saving money that you would spend on tips and taxes, and generally, you’ll be saving on calories as well.

Switch Banks

If you happen to be paying monthly fees for your savings or checking account, you’ll benefit from taking a look at some of the latest banking offers. Some of the better banks will offer things like bonuses for opening an account and getting your direct deposit set up. Some of them also offer better interest rates to their newest customers. While it’s true that interest rates aren’t very good across the board these days, it’s still worth the time you’ll spend looking. Some of the very best savings accounts and free checking accounts can easily be found online.

The fact of the matter is that there are plenty of ways for everyone to save a bit of money. Find the methods that will work best for you and your lifestyle and begin incorporating them into your life.
