The kitchen is one room in the house where you can make so many clever eco swaps and switch to green living. One of the things I like most about the SaveMoneyCutCarbon shop is that you can search for products by room. We already know that SaveMoneyCutCarbon are unrivalled when it comes to offering the best green living products at the best prices but they definitely also get brownie points from me for making the shop so easy to navigate.
In the kitchen, there are many eco swaps to be made and this month, with thanks to SaveMoneyCutCarbon, I am sharing some no brainer eco friendly kitchen swaps.

My Green Living Essentials from SaveMoneyCutCarbon
This month I have switched my kitchen staples thanks to the innovative green living range at SaveMoneyCutCarbon. Gone are plastic handled brushes and instead we are using the Eco Coco Nut range including a coconut husk scourer.
This multipurpose scourer from EcoCoconut helps to deliver excellent results when cleaning, as well as being sustainable. Soft enough not to scratch, robust enough to get rid of the toughest dirt. It is made using coconut husk, a byproduct from the coconut farming industry.
We made the switch to water bottles a while back in a bid to stop buying drinks when we are out and about. However, cleaning the bottles was a concern, but not any more thanks to the bottle brushes from EcoCoconut. This is perfect for cleaning baby bottles, wine glasses, and reusable drinking bottles.
Its simplistic design delivers ultimate precision when cleaning, as it’s soft enough not to scratch, robust enough to get rid of the toughest dirt.

Swap Out Disposable Products – Disposable products such as paper towels are not only really bad for the environment, but they can be incredibly expensive as well. For a quick and easy way to go green, make the swap to reusable products. Not only will you save much more money, but you’ll be living with much less of a carbon footprint. The ecoegg Bamboo Towels are designed to be a complete, eco-friendly replacement for kitchen roll, and are versatile with several uses around your home.
The towels themselves come in a roll and are perforated so they can be easily separated, giving them the same feel as your traditional paper towels. The difference is they can be used time and time again, saving you money and taking care of the environment. Each sheet is strong, super-absorbent, scratch and residue free and can be washed, dried and re-used 85 times, which means each roll can be used 1700 times. This saves the unnecessary waste of single-use kitchen rolls going into landfill.
Another kitchen product that I now wouldn’t be without is beeswax wraps available from SaveMineyCutCarbon they come in a random selection of lovely prints, handmade in the UK using end-of-line fabric offcuts and locally sourced beeswax. These beeswax wraps are a fantastic sustainable solution to keep your food fresh, completely replacing single use clingfilm and sandwich bags in your home. We use them all the time now along with the stasher bags I previously shared.
Start a Compost Pile – How much food waste do you have each week? It doesn’t seem very green to throw it out, does it? The US wastes as much as 80 billion pounds of food each year! If you’re looking for more easy ways to go green, starting a compost pile can help you both reduce waste and save money. When you compost food waste such as vegetables, eggshells and coffee grounds, you are turning that waste into a usable product. The rich, nutritious garden soil that your compost will create can then be used to lower your grocery bills if you use it to grow your own food.
Reduce Energy Use – Wasted energy is probably the least green thing your home and family could do. Not only is it the opposite of green, but it is also helping to bust your budget each month. High water costs, high power costs and high natural gas costs if you use it can really put a burden on a family budget, but if you’re trying to find green ways to reduce energy costs, you can help reduce your carbon footprint and save yourself some money at the same time.
Things such as turning off lights when you’re not in the room or setting your thermostat two degrees warmer in the summer/colder in the winter may not seem as if they would make much of a difference, but they will. Budget wise, it may take a couple months to really see a difference but you will begin to be more green living almost immediately.
Become a green living DIY Home – Commercially made and sold products are not only full of toxic chemicals but they’re packaged wastefully and expensive. By moving to make more DIY products at home, you can eliminate the plastic waste, remove those toxins from your home and save quite a bit of money each year. If you’re new to making things yourself, start with something simple such as cleaning with vinegar and essential oils and slowly move up to the more complicated DIY’s.
Cook More Naturally – Finally, eating out is expensive and supports companies with high carbon footprints. A much more green way of eating is to eat more natural meals at home. Not only will you save money, but you will be eating in a much more green way. Real, whole foods are healthier for your family and taste better too! They’re especially cheaper if you use the compost you have started to grow your own vegetables!
If you implement these small green living changes you will improve your carbon footprint and save money. For more money-saving eco-tips head over to the learn and save section of the SaveMoneyCutCarbon website, it really is your one-stop shop for education and purchasing all the eco products that you need large or small.
