Where to find clothes for cash?
Many of us have clothes that we are storing or keeping in our homes that we no longer wear, want, or even need. We can all be guilty of it. Those bags of clothes that you hope you will one day fit into.
Clothing that provides sentimental memories and meaning. Children’s clothes that we keep just in case you might have another baby. Our attics, cupboards, drawers, and basements are likely full to the brim of things we no longer need in our lives.
Charity shops are also a great place to find clothes for cash. You can pick up some great finds and buys in your local charity shop and then you can resell them and turn a nice profit which makes you lots of money for clothes!
The final place we source clothes to resell is at car boot sales. This is where many of the best finds are to be had. It does require some commitment though as most car boots start early in the morning! However, it is the early bird that catches the worm as they say and it is here you will be able to pick up items especially clothes dirt cheap.
Once you have sorted where to find the clothes, why not sell them online to make some extra money?
How to make money for clothes
Don’t put all your eggs in one basket
One of the first things to consider would be to not put all your eggs in one basket. What I mean by this is don’t just stick to one platform when it comes to your listings. There are so many great places to sell your clothes online. Including:
- eBay
- Vinted
- Depop
- Facebook Marketplace
- Shpock
- Preloved
Some items will do better than others on different platforms so spend a little time doing some research and looking at sold items or what has been listed in the past. You might be surprised that you may get more money for things on other platforms. The most popular would be eBay, but that doesn’t mean to say you can’t try any of the others.
I have previously written this What Sells on eBay Including the Ridiculous, Wacky and Downright Crazy just to show the range of what people buy!
Sportswear and clothes for teenagers tend to do well on Depop for example. This is the platform my kids and brother use the most for making money when reselling clothes.
How to make the most of your listing
It is really important that you take a few mins to get your listing right. There are a few secrets to success that we will now share.
Make sure your pictures are of good quality
If you are wanting to make a sale, then pictures are going to be your best friend. So make sure you take good-quality pictures of your items. Show whether their any blemishes and marks, take a picture of labels to confirm sizing, and even things like different angles and up close parts of the item.
The more pictures you have, the more chances your item will sell. It also covers you incase the buy has any issues with the item once it arrives. If you have taken good pictures then you will be covered. Many of us buy because of what we see, so your pictures will be doing all the hard work for you.
Include everything in the descriptions
Another great tip is to ensure that you put as much information as possible in the description. Again this covers you incase a buyer has any issues, but it is also your chance to sell the item fast. Include sizing, your opinion on sizing such as whether it is a small or larger fit. Explain where you got it from, why you bought it, how often it might have been worn, any marks or blemishes, etc. The more you say, the more the buyer will trust your listing and buy it.
Do research when it comes to pricing
One of the biggest issues people have when it comes to selling their items online is the price point. You don’t want to sell too cheap but you also don’t want to discourage people if your prices are too high. This is when doing research on pricing can help. Websites like eBay allow you to see sold and completed items, which could indicate what people have been prepared to pay for similar or even the same item.
This could help you find a good pricing point to start bidding or list a “buy it now” price for your clothing. Bundles will also help to make sales so listing similar sized items together could encourage a buyer and also will help you to make a sale faster.
Get your postage costs right
It is important that you get your postage costs right when looking to get clothes for cash. Platforms like vinted work out the postage for you and that is dealt with separately to your transaction, but with eBay, you need to put the cost of postage into your listing. Put the price too high and it will put someone off, but list it too low and you will be out of pocket when it comes to sending it.
A great tip would be to think about the postage cost ahead of the listing, and list it with free postage. This will appeal to the buyer but if you are smart you will start the listing a little higher to help cover the costs.
Think also about the fact that you have to buy envelopes and tape for sending the clothes in. We tend to use plastic mail bags as they are easiest and ideal for clothing.
Don’t delay when sending items out
Finally, don’t delay when sending your items out. People want a quick turnaround so be upfront with postage times in your listing. If you know it will take a few days put that in the description and message the buyer to state when it will be sent. The more communication you have the better.
Hopefully, these tips will help you to make money for clothes by reselling.
