Whether you’re wanting to completely redesign, just spruce up your space a little bit or simply fall back in love with your home, a fresh new start for 2021 could be just what you need. Invest in a home office

Whether you’re a young professional living at Langley Square in Dartford or you’re well out into the countryside in the likes of Kent or Brighton, having a designated space to work and separate work time from leisure time is essential for your mental health if nothing else. Knowing you have a space to really unwind that is completely seperate will help you feel a bit more productive and motivated in working and also ensure you get a chance to switch off. Working from home has taken a bit of getting used to this year but with a few little changes you can invest in your home and your self even if it just means a flat pack desk and drawers and a quick trip to IKEA.

Dividers to compartmentalise

While we all love the clean and fresh aesthetic of a big open plan kitchen in a world where we spend the majority of our time trying to entertain ourselves at home and get to grips with enjoying the indoors, having a bit more division can be a little more helpful. Dividers can really break up your interior and make you feel like you have a bigger variety of spaces to enjoy and this can certainly be helpful if you’ve got kids. Having designated spaces for playtime, rest, relaxing with the significant other and eating meals together has a big impact on how we structure our day. Getting into a routine of decorating spaces for how you want them to be used and how it creates routine in your day to day life can make them feel a little more comfortable and enjoyable for everyone.

Organising on Display

Another great tip for a year that promises staying at home at least for a little while, is a good wholesome and all round aesthetically pleasing option to help you feel positive and clear headed however busy the day may get. Shabby Chic is also on its way back this year so bookshelves and shelving units with a rustic tone could not only organise your space but give it that cosy feel to carry you through to the warmer months. Footrests with storage compartments and layered boxes are also a great way to style up with a bit of methodical tidying and will make it easier to pack everything away for when they in laws make a surprise appearance. So pack up and put away but do it with your own personal touch and an eye for coordination.

Insist on Daylight

During the winter months, we can all feel a bit of lacklustre and a lot of that comes down to the diminished hours of daylight we get to enjoy the outdoors, see friends and do things as a family. So making the most of the sunlight your home does get could just want you need this year to ensure you get to reap the benefits of a little more Vitamin D in your life. That means scrapping heavy dark curtains or blinds that might suffocate your room of light or moving furniture away from windows where they can cast big shadows. Light furniture especially cane and natural textures are certainly on their way in for 2021 so make your home feel a little less heavy might just boost your mood, whether you’re high up in an apartment in East London or you’re hunkered down in the cosy cottages of Surrey.
