We live in a fast-paced world and with it has come fast fashion and fast trends. I have written before about how we can make a difference by reusing rather than just getting rid of things. We need to think smarter in our shopping habits too.
The clever John Ruskin said:
“It’s unwise to pay too much, but it’s worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money – that’s all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do.
Now I like a bargain with the best of them but I only buy real bargains. Too often I see deals that are not really a bargain. When I make a purchase I like to get value for money. That doesn’t translate to cheap, which is often a false economy.
Take those jeans I bought that were cheap but wore out so quickly or the shoes that were not really well made and rubbed my feet. They were both a waste of my money. These days I know that I need to spend a little more to get both the quality and longevity I want. This is why I like sale or a voucher code as I am stretching my money rather than comprising on quality and buying cheap. It all about value.
Made To Last is setting out to do things differently:
- All products sold on MADE TO LAST have a clear guarantee shown on the product page. Customers can therefore judge the true cost and value of a product.
- All products are manufactured in the British Isles and sold in Britain (some raw materials may come from other countries) – this will help to strengthen local industries and craftspeople and at the same time mean that additional costs are not fed into our products to cover international transport and taxes.
Made to Last sell everything from vases to sofa’s and beds to duvets. I have my eye on this gorgeous sofa that comes with a 15 year guarantee and is just £799.95 in the clearance section. It is handcrafted in Wiltshire by experienced craftsmen.
Therefore we can shop with ease knowing that you are getting great value. You are buying with a guarantee and a long guarantee at that. Therefore you know what you are buying will last the test of time. You might spend a little more in the first instance but in the long term you are making better-educated purchases. You are also buying amazing quality workmanship at the same time as shopping sustainably.
Many of us are looking to preserve the environment and our natural resources. Buying responsibly and buying products made to last is how you can do this.
