Self-care is an important part of life for everyone, but some of the more popular options can be quite costly! As mums, sometimes we find it difficult to find time to ourselves, or to spend money on ourselves. With the help of these ideas, you can take care of yourself without breaking the bank! Here are 10 cheap or free self-care ideas for mums!
At home spa day
Take a nice long bath with some candles and treat yourself! If you have bath bombs or any special lotions, now’s their time to shine! Taking some time to pamper yourself will make a huge difference in the way you feel, and can be done with things you already have! Check out my previous post on How to make homemade facemasks.
Meditate
Meditation is a great way to relieve some stress, and really think about what you need to take care of yourself. Take a half hour or so out of the day to really stop and let your mind free. Meditation costs nothing but the time you use, and helps you better understand yourself in the process!
Learn to sew/crochet
This one isn’t free, as there can be upfront costs for materials. With that aside, it can be a fun option to unwind and take some “me time” for yourself! The best part is you’ll have something to show for your relaxation at the end of it, like a winter hat or a blanket!
Read
Reading is good for the mind, and is the perfect way to escape reality for a little while! Take care of yourself by finding a good book for free at your local library and setting aside time to get cozy and dive in! Popular at the moment is Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine.
Bake something
Baking is a cheap and easy way to take care of yourself by making something you love! Bake a cake, some cookies, or anything else you want, and let your worries slip away! Dessert never hurt anybody, and it can help with your self-care too!
Go to a museum
Check your local area for any museums or art galleries that have free or cheap admission, and head out for a day of culture! Immerse yourself in art and expand your horizons with this self-care field trip!
Sing
You don’t have to be a good singer to enjoy singing! Belt out your favourite songs in the car, at home, or anywhere else private. Getting into the songs can help you relieve stress and take care of yourself emotionally, for me at the moment it is the songs from The Greatest Showman.
Listen to music
Put on some old favourites, or check out some new artists! No matter what you decide to do, take a moment to really listen to the music and appreciate all the work that went into it. Self-care can be lots of things, and appreciating the work of others can help us to better appreciate our own work each day!
Visit a local farmer’s market
Fair warning, this idea is free by itself, but you could get caught over budget if you’re not careful while you’re there! Take some time for yourself and check out all the fresh produce and other products being sold at your local farmer’s market!
Go for a walk
Simple, easy, free, and healthy! Taking a walk gives you time to clear your head and burn come calories all at once, making it a perfect option for mental self-care and physical self-care!
It may feel like taking care of yourself is expensive and more trouble than it’s worth, but that couldn’t be further from the truth! With these ideas, you’ll be feeling better before you know it, and your wallet won’t be any thinner!
