Are you looking for tips on how to save for Christmas? I have you covered with these fail-proof ways to make Christmas spending that bit easy.
Christmas is traditionally an expensive time of year for many families. While you may do your best to spread the cost across the year or to not go overboard when it comes to making decisions on presents and purchases, the costs can still spiral out of control. Some people make the mistake of leaving things till December, which effectively only leaves you with one pay packet and the prospect of a long January ahead.
However, it doesn’t have to be this way? A great option is to start making some savings now, in any way, can make a difference to your finances during the festive period and take some of the stress of that away. So here are some of the ways that you can save now for Christmas.
How to Save for Christmas
Christmas is a fixed date every year – whilst this is stating the obvious it should help you with your planning and preparation. Christmas should not creep up on you and there are many ways on how to save for Christmas. I often buy throughout the year and I am organised with a Christmas book where I list who I am buying for and tick them off once they are done. I really like this Christmas planner available on Amazon and it certainly keeps me organised and on track with my spending.
Take advantage of retail sales
One of the best ways to save money is to take advantage of retail sales. Many larger stores will have periodic sales in the lead up to Christmas, especially for things like toys that can be quite pricey. Half price sales or even bundle up options can provide you with huge savings. Look online and find a list of timings when sales usually happen and plan your Christmas spending around them. I often stock up in the Boots 70% off sale in Jan.
Cut some of your weekly luxuries and save the money instead
If you are conscious about saving some money now for Christmas then quick action is needed. So one of the easiest ways to do this is to look at what you spend weekly. That take out coffee, the Saturday night takeaway, what is it that you could forgo for the next few months? Once you have decided each week transfer what you would have spent into a savings account. You will see this soon mounts up.
What bills can you get rid of?
Another thing you could do would be to look at your bills and outgoings and see what you can either reduce or get rid of completely. You may find that you have direct debtors for things like magazine subscriptions or tv streaming services that you might not even use. Cancel them and each month transfer the amount to a savings account. You won’t notice the difference in your outgoings, but you will notice the change in your savings.
Round up your bank balance
Saving money is easy if you start to round up your bank balance each evening. For example, if your bank account balance is showing £384.82 in credit. Then round it down to £380 and transfer the £4.82 into your savings. Each day a small amount will be going into your savings account and you likely won’t miss the difference. Little often soon adds up.
Savings challenges
Finally, savings challenges can really help. There are ones that you can start in January or just challenge yourself right now and start straightaway. A quick search online will help you to identify one that works for you.
Hopefully, these tips will help you to save now for Christmas.
